It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

This is the squad that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, plus six more T20 titles, and earlier maintained 1,294 days undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, those for the achievement hunters, are the only things left for a squad that has achieved everything.

The fact it required until Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase exceeding 300, reclaiming their record for the biggest in the female 50-over format, is, in truth, a tribute to the pitchers that have represented Australia over five decades.

It is hard for their batters to hold a record if never given the possibility.

Finally, the result of Australia giving up 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy receiving a chance to produce her latest masterpiece.

Then best known as the 19-year-old niece of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her country didn't secure either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups from the prior year and has seen it all through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 World Cup win came three months after her first appearance and seven world titles have followed from 10 efforts across formats.

The gritty keeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India temporarily stopped the winning streak.

That loss "pushed us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy said this week.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the title decider and was awarded tournament MVP. She ensured her country would not fall short again.

The question of whether this latest epic knock surpassed that earlier display is debatable.

Many contend the reasoning behind championship match pressure. Others can counter with the challenge that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's clear is this century was much more difficult to predict.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 occurred when she led the batting statistics, but this performance followed six innings in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've been watching me in training, it was a challenging time because it seemed I've had no rhythm at all," said Healy.

"However when you step out on the field, your competitive nature activate and you simply focus on the contest."

Healy's competitive nature has consistently been her key asset - and an invaluable trait in taking over from iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, dismissed by the 22-year-old seamer in each encounter, but here that only provided Healy's inspiration.

One run resulted off the opening delivery and after that the batsman was in motion.

"The possibility to go out there and face the challenge with her and simply enjoy myself in that aspect, somewhat inspired me," stated Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 pitches - her swiftest at the World Cup - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she attacked short-pitched balls, hitting 21 fours and three big hits.

By the time she was removed her side needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - an unconquered height now needing a comfortable finish.

"To chase 330 is new territory so I'm happy we have the assurance to do that now," added Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to repeat it but, should it happen, we believe we can do it."

Those words will be the final thing Australia's opponents at this championship need to hear.

In recent days a feeling they will succeed regardless of circumstances has grown stronger - this success succeeding win against Pakistan by 107-run victory despite being 76-7 at one stage.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before an encounter with traditional opponents England in Indore in ten days, by which point a last-four spot may well be secure.

It was at that stage they were eliminated from the prior year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a match Healy couldn't play because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the initial instance at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated through the pain.

But while she later admitted those fitness problems have postponed thoughts of retirement, this World Cup is anticipated as her concluding event as leader in ODI cricket and she is still to achieve a world championship as leader.

Victory in India would take her to the summit of her last major obstacle.
